Cowbridge Man AirliftedPosted: June 19, 2012
Wales Air Ambulance’s Swansea based air ambulance attended a young man in Cowbridge yesterday, Sunday 17th June.
The 17 year old male had sustained head injuries after a road traffic collision on the A48 near Cowbridge yesterday.
Wales Air Ambulance’s HEMS paramedics arrived quickly on the scene and began to treat the patient before taking him to the specialist head trauma unit in Cardiff’s University Hospital Wales.
The transfer to hospital took just 8 minutes, delivering the patient to the best possible care as quickly as possible, helping to increase his chance of a good recovery.
Wales Air Ambulance Operations Manager, Jason Williams said: “Road traffic collisions make up around 40% of Wales Air Ambulance’s missions; this is due to the fact that they often result in severe injuries which require fast, specialist medical attention. The helicopters are able to get a critical patient to the specialist trauma units.”
