Woman airlifted off cliff in North Wales

By Owen Hughes

The climber, who was in her 50s, became stuck on a quarry cliff at around 9pm on Monday night close to the Nant Gwrtheyrn language centre on the Llyn Peninsula.

She couldn’t move up or down on the cliff and was left trapped as darkness fell.

The woman was unable to raise the alert and it was only when she was spotted by a passer-by this morning that help was mobilised.

Cliff rescue teams from Porth Dinllaen and Llandwrog were sent to the scene along with a 22 Squadron Search and Rescue helicopter crew from RAF Valley.

The RAF crew were able to winch her off the cliff at around 8.30am and she was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for treatment.
