Etihad Airways has revealed its intention to start flying from Scotland as early as next year.Speaking in Glasgow, chief executive James Hogan said the Gulf carrier was in negotiations with a Scottish airport.

He said: “Scotland, we’re coming. We’ll start flying from our first Scottish city next year.”

Hogan, speaking at the 84th Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association annual dinner, also¬†hinted that the carrier plans to fly from more than one Scottish city, adding: “Expect us within five years to be flying from Scottish cities.”

By flying from Scotland, Etihad would be following in the footsteps of its fellow Gulf carriers Qatar and Emirates.

Qatar is to start flying from Edinburgh in May, while Emirates is to mark its tenth year flying from Glasgow by bringing an A380 to the airport for a one-off flight.
