Passengers bypass immigration in blunder at Birmingham AirportPosted: April 7, 2014
An investigation is underway after a security blunder at Birmingham International Airport allowed ‘almost 20’ passengers through immigration without having their passports checked.
The passengers were arriving on a KLM flight from Amsterdam and were allowed through the airport unchecked after being mistakingly directed through UK immigration where passport checks are not necessary.
A spokesman for the airport said:
The airport company accepts that an error might have been made in applying UK immigration policy but points out that this would not have compromised other security regimes in place. An investigation is under way.
