Wales Air Ambulance Press Release

For the first time in its history, Monmouthshire Building Society will be fundraising on behalf of a nominated Charity of the Year. For 2015, they have named Wales Air Ambulance its Charity of the Year, to help raise as much money as possible for the life-saving Wales-wide charity.

Wales Air Ambulance provides emergency air cover for those individuals facing life-threatening illnesses or injuries, and attends an average of 2,000 incidents each year. They rely entirely on donations to fund their three helicopters based in North, Mid and South Wales.

During the 12-month partnership, Monmouthshire Building Society will raise funds to support the charity’s emergency air cover provision across the entire length and breadth of Wales. The charity needs to raise £6 million every year to operate the service, with each mission on average costing £1,500.

All of the Society’s 125 staff based in South Wales and the South West of England will be encouraged to support the various fundraising campaigns taking place, as well as developing additional, employee specific events and challenges which have been scheduled across the whole of 2015.

The Society has also chosen Wales Air Ambulance to be an Affinity Instant partner, giving supporters an opportunity to open an Affinity Instant Account in support of the charity to help raise even more vital funds. This special partnership will enable supporters to help raise extra funds for the charity without even having to put their hand in their own pocket.

Commenting on the announcement, Chief Executive Andrew Lewis said: “Wales Air Ambulance is a vitally important initiative which, without support from the public, simply couldn’t exist. As a regional building society, it’s important to actively support our local communities, and fundraising towards the provision of their Wales-wide service is an honour for us.”

He continued: “With a number of activities planned for 2015, we look forward to raising as much money as possible to support their mission to aid the relief of sickness and injury, and the protection of human life, by the provision of an air ambulance service across Wales.”

Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, Mark Stevens, said: “It is only thanks to support from the public that we can continue to help those in need.
“It’s a great honour to be named Monmouthshire Building Society’s Charity of the Year 2015, and I would like to thank each and every staff member in advance for their support which is essential for our lifesaving service to continue.”
