Cardiff Aviation appoints head of base maintenance

Cardiff Aviation has appointed Colin Harrison, previously with British Airways and Airbus, as Head of Base Maintenance at its St Athan, South Wales, base.

Colin, 50, joins from air refuelling specialists Cobham, where he held the role of FTSA (Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft) Conversion Manager. He has been involved with aircraft maintenance and production for more than 30 years.

“The first thing that struck me about Cardiff Aviation was the energy and can-do; the second was the sheer extent of facilities and equipment available. There’s a great deal made of the fact that the hangars and engineering equipment have been acquired from the RAF, but from an aviation technical professional’s point of view, the quality of the resources is as good as it gets,” said Colin.

“That we have also acquired a vast array of Boeing and Airbus tooling following bmi’s closure means that we have a truly world class facility, in my experience quite possibly one of the best in Europe – a view also offered by one of our clients for whom we recently provided facilities for a Boeing 757 engine change.”

Cardiff Aviation was launched in 2012 by Iron Maiden singer and aviation entrepreneur Bruce Dickinson, who is himself a Boeing 757 pilot. Colin is representative of the calibre of no-nonsense professional who knows aviation maintenance inside-out and can make a genuine difference to the standard and efficiency of support and service in this field.”

Colin was an RAF airframe technician before joining British Aerospace as lead hand on structural repairs and maintenance. He then moved on to British Airways Maintenance at Cardiff, held two roles at Airbus, Filton, in production and engineering before moving on to Cobham in Bournemouth.
